As an accomplished scientist, Dr. King has 20 years experience in studying water circulation and mixing in freshwater and marine environments. Dr. King’s research utilises mathematics, computational simulation techniques and data from rivers and the sea, to enhance knowledge of water movement and material transport and fate in coastal, river, estuarine and coral reef environments. For example, these techniques have been used to minimise the environmental impacts of oil spills and petroleum platform discharges, sediment dynamics and understand natural impacts from river plumes and larval movement. Dr King also initiated the distribution and support of OILMAP, MUDMAP, SIMAP and WQMAP systems for Australia/Southeast Asia which provide computer modelling technology and environmental decision support and management systems for industry and government agencies.
